What is the Advanced Fire Fighting Update?

This advanced update course is for those designated to control fire fighting operations onboard, with particular attention paid to organisation, tactics and command. The STCW Advanced Fire Fighting coursemeets the requirements of STCW 78 with 2010 amendments and involves both practical and theory training, and must be updated every five years. The Update is a classroom based course and only requires theoretical training.

  • Control of fire fighting operations onboard ships
  • Organise and train fire parties
  • Procedures
  • Response planning
  • First Aid
  • Inspect/Service fire detection appliances/equipment
  • Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire


What do I need to do the Advanced course?

This STCW Advanced Fire Fighting Update course is desgined to refresh your advanced firefighting knowledge. Participants must have successfully completed the STCW Advanced Fire Fighting (Section A-V1/1-2) or similar training acceptable to the IMO. Candidates must also be in possession of a valid basic Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting certificate.
