Gordon was born and brought up in the outskirts of Glasgow, which he then left at the age of 17 to join the Royal Navy. After finishing with the Royal Navy he joined the Fire Service and spent 28 years as a Firefighter.
In 2000 he was seconded to the Warsash Maritime School to be a part of the Ship Firefighting instructor team. He stayed there for 2 years and then when his secondment ended he did some casual part-time work with them.
He has been a BA and CFBT instructor for over 20 years. After he retired from the fire service in 2015, he has been employed as an instructor teaching ship Fire Fighting and as a BA trainer for the London Fire Brigade, he recently rejoined Warsash as a part-time instructor.
As an instructor for vessels, he has travelled to numerous locations like the UK, Spain, France, Turkey, Malta, Macedonia and other countries where he has trained crew on different vessels.
Gordon is passionate about training and he truly enjoys his work. In his own words, he finds passion in “reassuring students and getting them to overcome their fear of fire and show them techniques to deal with the situation in a safe manner, passing on my knowledge that I have attained over the years”.
